Semaglutide
Semaglutide is a long-acting analogue of human glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) with 94% sequence homology to the native hormone. Research demonstrates that its structural modification—specifically, the addition of a C-18 fatty diacid chain—facilitates high-affinity binding to serum albumin, thereby extending its half-life and resistance to DPP-4 degradation. It functions as a potent GLP-1 receptor agonist to stimulate glucose-dependent insulin secretion and suppress glucagon release, serving as a primary subject for studies on glycemic control, weight management, and cardiovascular risk reduction.
